The Audubon Mural Project è un progetto di street art ambizioso portato avanti con l’intento di dipingere sulle facciate di numerosi edifici di Manhattan a New York 314 specie di uccelli a rischio estinzione.
L’iniziativa ha preso il via nell’ottobre del 2014 grazie ad una collaborazione tra la National Audubon Society e la Gitler &_____ gallery e si propone di aumentare la consapevolezza delle persone sui problemi causati dal riscaldamento globale veicolando allo stesso tempo un omaggio a John James Audubon (1785-1851). Il pittore di origine francese, ornitologo e naturalista, è considerato il primo esperto del Nuovo Mondo in questo campo, capace per primo di ritrarre, studiare e descrivere le innumerevoli varietà di volatili presenti sul suolo americano.

Accanto ad ogni murales è inoltre possibile acquisire maggiori informazioni sulla specie ritratta e sulle minaccelegate all’uomo e al clima che ne insidiano l’esistenza.
